Thus spake Lord Krishna

The discourses of Lord Krishna are recorded in the Bhagavad Gita –a book that has guided the lives of millions of Indians. Interestingly, the setting of these discourses is the battlefield of Kurukshetra .Arjuna the great warrior is depressed and unwilling to join battle against his dear ones. Lord Krishna, his mentor, explains to him that the soul is immortal and indestructible. And it is the duty of every warrior to fight in a righteous war. In that great book of wisdom there is the following sloka:

Vaasaamsi jeernaani yathaa vihaaya

Navaani grihnaati naro’paraani;

Tathaa shareeraani vihaaya jeernaa

Nyanyaani samyaati navaani dehee.

Bhagvad Gita –Sankhya Yoga Sloka 22

“Just as a human casts off worn-out clothes and dons new ones, in the same way the immortal soul departs a withered body and enters a pristine one”.
