A note from Roopen Roy

The Bengal Club has a new President

July 21,2007

Dear Friends,colleagues and well-wishers,

The month of July of 2007 has created a number of significant milestones in my life.

I have joined Deloitte Consulting as the Managing Director with a role in their global executive. You will see a lot more Deloitte in the marketplace and the media than you have seen in the past as it embarks upon a journey to make history in India.

Yesterday, I was honoured and privileged to be unanimously elected the President of The Bengal Club ,the oldest club in the country with a rich tradition of elegance and finesse---steeped in traditional values but in step with modern times. The Bengal Club is situated at the site where Lord Macaulay lived.Lord Macaulay mandated that Indians must learn English and without English the IT revolution in India would not have been as sweeping. In some sense, therefore,it can be argued that it is the cradle of the IT revolution in India!!! I thank all my friends, colleagues and well wishers for their blessings and good wishes. In particular I would like to thank my mentor Mr P K Choksey, a distinguished past President of the Club and one of the most outstanding, Senior Partners that PricewaterhouseCoopers has ever produced. He called me from Mumbai to bless me.I would also like to thank Pesi Narielvala, a towering personality in our profession and a retired Senior Partner of Ernst & Young for his kind words about me at the meeting.

We will be upgrading the website of The Bengal Club in the coming weeks but you may wish to browse the site at your leisure http://www.thebengalclub.com/

I have also be inducted along with Sanjeev Goenka to the Board of Governors of Alsoc-the alumni association of St.Xavier's School and the felicitation took place on the 18th July.It is a privilege to go back to one's alma mater and have the opportunity of serving the school in a humble manner.

Once again I thank you for coming to my cyberhome-there is some additional material that I have appended to the Schumpeter article,an Alsoc member Subhasish sent it to me this week.

Thanks and regards

Roopen
